How often a Food Safety Supervisor needs to refresh their Food Safety Supervisor training depends on where in Australia their food business is located.
As all businesses that need a Food Safety Supervisor to operate must keep a Food Safety Supervisor Statement of Attainment on premises, a food business should replace the Food Safety Supervisor certificate within a month of an FSS leaving, changing their name, or updating their qualifications.
NSW
Overseen by the New South Wales Food Authority, NSW has the strictest laws on food safety in Australia. Food Safety Supervisors in NSW must refresh their Food Safety Supervisor qualification every five years, through a course such as the NSW Recertification.
ACT
Individuals in the ACT must also renew their training every five years.
Australian States and Territories (Non-NSW)
Currently, individuals who hold a Food Safety Supervisor qualification in one of the below States or Territories can hold the qualification indefinitely without the need to refresh:
- Queensland
- Victoria
- South Australia
- Tasmania
- Western Australia
- Northern Territory
What Happens if I Lose or Damage my Food Safety Supervisor Statement of Attainment?
If a Food Safety Supervisor loses or damages their Statement of Attainment, they should contact AIFS or the RTO who issued the certificate to arrange for a new certificate to be delivered. You will need to submit documentation as proof of identity before a certificate can be reissued.
What Happens if I Change my Contact Details?
If a Food Safety Supervisor changes their name or contact details, the FSS should contact AIFS or the RTO that issued the certificate to alert them to the changes. Once you have submitted proof of your identity, the certificate can be reissued.
