Membership Policy

This policy contains important information for all new members joining the thousands of food professionals currently enjoying the benefits of AIFS membership.
  1. Preamble
    1. The purpose of this policy is to outline the categories of membership, the applicable membership fees, eligibility criteria for membership, terms of membership, and other important information regarding the Australian Institute of Food Safety (AIFS) Membership Program.
  2. Categories of Membership
    1. There are two categories of AIFS Membership. These are:
      1. Food Safety Supervisor member
      2. Food Handler member
    2. The category of membership is determined by the highest level of nationally recognised course that has been completed by the new member.
  3. Membership Term
    1. The initial term of AIFS membership is two years.
    2. The term of membership is calculated from the date which the member succesfully completed a nationally recognised course with the Australian Institute of Food Safety.
  4. Eligibility Criteria
    1. Membership is available to all qualifying individuals 18 years of age and over.
    2. All members must have completed the nationally recognised Food Handler, Food Safety Supervisor or NSW Recertification course with the Australian Institute of Food Safety,
    3. The Australian Institute of Food Safety reserves the right to refuse membership to any applicant and membership is revocable without cause.
    4. Memberships may be terminated at the discretion of the Australian Institute of Food Safety.
  5. Membership Benefits
    1. AIFS members receive:
      1. Access to free food safety resources including articles, food recall information, templates, posters, guides and videos.
      2. A Food Safety Card that confirms their membership and also provides evidence of having completed nationally recognised training.
      3. A Food Safety Decal which may be displayed by the business that employs the member for the duration of the member's employment.
      4. A Food Safety Display Certificate which may be displayed by the business that employes the member for the duration of the member's employment.
  6. Membership Fees
    1. The first two years of membership are provided free of charge to all students who successfully complete the Food Handler or Food Safety Supervisor course with the Australian Institute of Food Safety on or after the start date of the membership program.
    2. To renew membership after the initial two years, members must pay a renewal fee. This fee amount will be advised as part of the communications sent to the members about membership renewal.
  7. Membership Renewal
    1. Prior to the expiration of the membership; members will be reminded of their renewal options.
    2. Membership renewal fees must be paid on or before the date of renewal in order to continue membership with AIFS.
    3. Individuals who have passed their membership expiry date, and have not responded to contact attempts to continue, will be suspended. Should they wish to resume membership, they will be required to pay the current membership registration fees.
  8. Membership Cancellation
    1. Should a individual wish to cancel their membership, they are required to notify The Australian Institute of Food Safety in writing.
    2. Membership fees are non-refundable.
  9. Terms of Membership
    1. Non-endorsements
      1. Members may not use AIFS membership as an endorsement of their food safety policies or practices.
    2. Use of AIFS name and logo
      1. The AIFS name and logo are proprietary and may not be used without permission, nor may they be used as a statement of endorsement. 
      2. Current members may display the AIFS Food Safety Decal and Food Safety Display Certificate at the food business where they are employed, for the duration of their employment. 
      3. To obtain permission to use AIFS' name and logo in another manner, please contact [email protected]
      4. The AIFS name and logo may not be used in any way, including the display of the Food Safety Decal or Food Safety Display Certificate after membership has expired or been cancelled. 
    3. Privacy & Confidentiality
      1. All data that we collect is kept secure, private and confidential, and complies with the Australian Privacy Principles. Please see our Privacy Policy and Security Policy for more information.
  10. Lost or Stolen Membership Cards
    1. Lost or stolen membership cards should be reported immediately by emailing [email protected]
    2. All cards remain the property of the Australian Institute of Food Safety and must be returned upon request.
  11. Changes to this policy
    1. This policy may change from time to time. The most up-to-date version of the policy will be made available to members via the AIFS website (www.foodsafety.com.au)
