For each case study, you'll read a short scenario and then answer a multiple-choice quiz, which is similar to the quizzes you've already completed at the end of the lessons.Reading ActivityThere is a reading activity on potentially hazardous foods. Simply download the PDF from the course page and then complete the multiple choice quiz. NSW CertificationIn 2015, the NSW Food Authority announced some additional requirements for NSW Food Safety Supervisor training. Currently there are four key focus areas determined by the Food Authority - allergen management, safe egg handling, cleaning and sanitising practices, and Food Act offences. If you are seeking a NSW FSS certificate you must complete the four key focus areas.Food Safety Supervisor Observer ReportThere are some things we can't see you doing through your computer - such as washing your hands or wearing the correct clothes for work.In order to comply with the government requirements for Food Safety Supervisor training, you do need to demonstrate that you can perform such tasks correctly.To make this as easy as possible for you, we allow you to be observed by a co-worker or supervisor.Simply follow the instructions on the course page and ask someone in your workplace (past or present) to complete the form.Quality Assurance ProcessAs part of our quality assurance process, we reserve the right to contact you or your nominated observer to conduct a competency conversation or verification of assessment prior to awarding certification.
There are no training prerequisites for this course - you can simply enrol and get started.Language, Literacy and NumeracyWhilst there are no training prerequisites, there are some requirements around language, literacy and numeracy. In order to complete this course you should be able to perform everyday tasks such as:

  • Reviewing and discussing news items with others
  • Creating a personal weekly budget in a spreadsheet

These units are accepted in all states and territories, however please note that Transport & Distribution businesses in NSW may not be required to have a Food Safety Supervisor if they are a business required to have a specific licence as per the Food Act 2003 (NSW). Training for food sectorsFood Safety Supervisor training differs from sector to sector.When you complete your official AIFS Food Safety Supervisor course, you'll receive a Statement of Attainment.This lists the units of competency you've attained. Different food sectors have different units.
How do I select my food sector?Simply enrol in the Food Safety Supervisor course and complete your student registration.During registration, you'll provide contact information for a nominated observer and select your food sector from a dropdown menu.The sector you choose determines which Observer Report will be issued and the units of competency that will be displayed on your Statement of Attainment upon completion of your course. What is a Food Safety Supervisor?Under FSANZ Standard 3.2.2A, all Australian businesses that serve food must have one or more qualified Food Safety Supervisors.A Food Safety Supervisor is someone who has the appropriate food safety training to supervise food safety in a business. Food Safety Supervisors are mainly responsible for:
  • supervising food handling staff
  • maintaining the Food Safety Program
  • ensuring safe food handling practices across the business
Food Safety Supervisors are also required to be available to deal with any internal or external food safety matters on behalf of the food business.This can range from answering food safety questions from food workers to communicating with local government authorities regarding food safety incidents or during a regular inspection.
Anyone can enrol in the AIFS Food Safety Supervisor course. Whether you currently work in the food industry or are planning to, there's no prior knowledge or work experience required. You can simply sign up and get started.As of December 2022, Food Safety Supervisor training has been standardised across Australia as per FSANZ Standard 3.2.2A. However, New South Wales has some additional requirements that learners must meet to be recognised there. Sometimes the terms 'Level 1' and 'Level 2' are used when referring to Food Safety Supervisor training. These terms are used to signify that to become a qualified Food Safety Supervisor, training for both Level 1 and Level 2 must be completed.This course covers all requirements to become a Food Safety Supervisor - in other words, the AIFS Food Safety Supervisor course is a Level 1 and Level 2 course.
Food Safety Supervisor training is not only about ensuring food safety, it's the law. Food businesses in Australia must comply with federal, state and local food safety laws and requirements.Food Safety Supervisor training requirements were standardised in December 2022 with the introduction of FSANZ Standard 3.2.2A. This law specifies that all businesses that serve food must have one or more qualified Food Safety Supervisors available at all times.There are some state and territory laws you need to be aware of though.Learn more about the laws and requirements for your state or territory:
A Statement of Attainment is a document (like a certificate) that is issued to a student and contains the units of competency that has been completed as part of a nationally recognised training course.As a qualified Food Safety Supervisor, you will receive a valid Statement of Attainment and be trained to:
  • protect customers from food-borne illnesses
  • manage hazards in the workplace
  • train and supervise food handling staff
  • devise and maintain a Food Safety Program
  • build a compliant Food Safety Plan
  • prepare the business for food safety emergencies
  • serve as a point of contact for local government
